Words of Advice

Just a collection of quotes that have stuck with me over the years, so I decided to make them into type posters, all designed by me.

Rubba Dub Dub...

Just a typical Saturday for the McMahon household. Yesterday my Mother, younger Brother and my Dad (who organised the whole event) went down the Fergus river, in Ennis, Co. Clare, in a bathtub...

The Idea all came about after we remodelled the bathroom at home, and we were left with a bathtub out the back, and typically my Da being the well, MacGuyver type, decided that something should be done with the tub, rather than bringing it to the skip.

And so something was done with the Bath. Barrels were attached, the plughole was plugged and a charity was decided upon, posters were done up, collection cards were handed out, and yesterday everything fell into place, and the day was an amazing success.

We had a great turn out of supports and local politicians, lots of well wishers and people gave so generously. The charity that was the event was organised for was The Irish Heart Foundation, who recently helped out a family friend, it was was nice for things to come full circle, and being able to give something back to a wonderful organisation.

Afterwards there was an excellent (and delicious) BBQ in Mickey Kerin's pub in Ennis, and we had music too, and it really was a great atmosphere and an excellent night.

I have no idea what my Dad has planned next. He been a community activist for the past ten years, and after ever event he says this is the last one. But it never is. I am hoping he will at least take the Summer off, and put his feet up, cause if anyone deserves a break after TEN YEARS of organising events and OVER ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND EURO RAISED (YES, €100,000!!!) for some really deserving people and charities, it is him.

Now He's Having A Moment!

I've started a new Men's Fashion Blog, HE'S HAVING A MOMENT, WHAM'S trouble making younger brother.

I started the site because I felt there really aren't any Irish male fashion bloggers out there, apart from Cillian who does an amazing job at Male-Mode.

We're going to have editorials, follow what's happening on the runway, what the lads are wearing on the red carpet, and just generally have some fun.

Please get in touch if you are a designer, a fellow blogger, a stylist, a photographer, a make up artist, or just a fashionable fella... I would be more than happy to feature new Irish and International talent...

So enjoy H.H.A.M as it shall be known for short, hopefully we'll be able to inspire a few lads out there to stop wearing beer related slogan t-shirts and into some decent clothes.

Just a quick thank you

So before Christmas I was felling a little arts and crafty, so I went to the art shop and got a load of paper with great intensions of making all my friends hand made Christmas cards.

Well I put the paper in a drawer and forgot about it until December 26th, so my Christmas Cards became Thank You cards, and like the proper fool that I am, I gave away all the nice ones and photographed nothing. Except these ones, which I must say I do like.

Them mad lads over there....

In my second year of college we were given a fun brief to show us the joys of The Grid and how to design a magazine layout. We were given 4 articles to choose from, one was about the bog, one was about the Congo, one was about deforestation and finally one about Russian extremist. Naturally I picked the article about the mad Russian lads. I didn't even read any other article, as soon as I had heard the word Russian my mind was full of ideas and I was already drawing inspiration from the great Russian propaganda posters.

Anyways I was the only person to choose that article (most people pocked the one about the bog. Go figure.) and mine turned out the best. And by that I mean the lecturer seemed to hate mine the least. I was happy.

Not just a New Year, Its a New Decade!

Happy 2011 friends! A whole decade has gone by, isn't that crazy? I can remember ringing in the Millennium, being out on the street with all my neighbours and friends and turning to my sister and asking her is it 2000? I was 12 years old then. We had just got a computer and there was no such thing as an iPod or a Lady Gaga. Oh how times have changed. For the better, of course.

Anyways for the past 4 years now my mates from secondary school have gone to dinner every NYE and this year year was no except. I am so glad that after ten plus years we are all still in contact and as close as ever. Well, except for the number of us left. In 09 we had a party of 32, 3 tables and had half the restaurant closed off. This year it was a much more intimate 15. Thats recession/youth immigration for ya. Anyways it was still a fantastic group and the food was delicious.

As you can tell I licked the plate clean. The restaurant, Coco Fusion, was a former Chinese place that now incorporates other cuisines into its menu, so for starters I had Meat Sung and for Mains I had a Honey Roasted Chicken, gravy and a baby potatoes. See, fusion!

And at €19.50 a head for a 3 course meal you really couldn't go wrong?

I will definitely be returning.

We left the restaurant just after ten, which was the perfect time for NYE. The pubs weren't too jammed, and we were able to have a few drinks without being squashed into the corner.

Do you like my holiday beard? I grew it myself?

From Patrick's bar we ventured up the town to a nice OMP (Old Man Pub) Fawls, were we decided this would be the perfect location to ring in the new year. Good company, lots of drinks, thats all you really need.

How else would you ring in the new year then with a few shots?

I know I look totally crazy here, but hey, I was just happy to be out of the house. Christmas is great, but God then cabin fever set in fast this years. Anyways this is Aileen, Sinead, Elaine, Jennifer, Niamh, Aoife, Sarah and myself, old crazy face!

This is Lydia, desperate for an NYE Kiss!

Brian the Barman!

Niamh and Andy the happy yank.

Myself and Niamh, in the Clare colours! Do you like my jumper? 9.99 in Lidl! I think its a find, and I'll be bang on trend for A/W 11 in my Camel Neutrals. Yes, I know thats a womens trend, but I was thinking more 70's YSL, less Chloé!

Drink up! And from Fawls we went to our local, Brandons. And yes, seeing as Ive been frequenting the place since I was 16 I can safely say that it is my local, whether I like it or not. I decided to call it a night just after one, I was tired and not in the mood the wait 2 hours for a taxi later on in the night...

All in all it was the perfect way to celebrate a new decade. I decided to bring all the great thing from the last ten years with me, my friends, and leave behind all the bad things. New decade. New start.

My New Years resolution is pretty simple this year. I am number 1. From now I will be putting my mind, body and spirit first. And seeing as today is the 1/1/11 I can't think of a better day then to start looking after Number One. Me!

I wish every single reader to my little blog a fantastic 2011, and I honestly mean that with all my heart.

Health & Happiness

So on Thursday I had a very busy day, as I was graduating! It was such a lovely day, everyone got dressed up. I went the more casual route, open collar, leathah jacket, McQueen hi-tops kinda casual, but hey, thats me. It was so great to see all my old AIT designer buddies again...
