New Living Art II

At the weekend I was lucky enough to see The Irish Museum of Contemporary Art's New Living Art Exhibition held at Moxie Studios (Lad's Lane, off Baggot St.) The Show run until the 30th of October, and opens daily, 12-5pm.

My amazingly talented friend, Ciara Killalea, had two fabulous prints in the exhibition. They are part of her Inhabiting Space series. Ciara is one of those fabulous photographers that is able to capture a story, every time she clicks her camera, a true talent. And not to be bias, but she had the best work of the exhibition...

I highly recommend the exhibition, it has a rich and diverse collection of instillations, photography, moving imagery and some taxidermy. What more could you want from an exhibition?

Everything looks better from above...

Bitch must own a helicopter! That was my initial reaction upon seeing Jenny Odell's Satellite Collection. But upon further inspection, and realizing that the collection is called "Satellite Collection", it became quite clear that Ms. Odell does not own a helicopter, but she is in possession of one very large brain.

Using Google Satellites, Jenny Odell was able scour the globe for, well, anything she wanted basically. It is such a clever idea and the end results are pretty stunning. You can see more of Jenny's work at her WEBSITE.

Art without Limits!

When you think of fearless artists, Grace Jones and Chris Cunningham would usually come to mind. I can't believe this is my first time see this amazing editorial from Dazed & Confused magazine. I saw Grace at Electric Picnic 08 and the performance was so brilliantly mental. 40 minutes late. Different Philip Tracey hat for each song. it was just such fun, made friends with a woman called Barbara who ran the creps van, I meet her the next night and she gave me a free pancake. anyways love the body modification and Grace's transformation in these shots.

Kimiko's Genius

In the words of Victor Mancici:

Brilliant isn't the right word...

But it's the first that comes to mind.

I am so blown away with the work of Kimiko Yoshida. Her self portraits are some of the most beautiful photography I've seen in a long time. What maximizes the beauty is the incorporation of cultures from all over the globe. Feather headdresses, beading, jewelery, all transcending gender, race and ethnic origins, she has transformed herself in each picture.

We have this upcoming brief in college, to design a poster for Templebar's Culture Week, and I am definitly gonna reference Kimiko's work, it really is beyond inspiring. My current thought palette is heading in the direction of Bjork/AlexanderMcQueen/NickKnight's Homogenic album artwork.

So much inspiration, hopefully it will lead to an great final piece.
