An Angel Appears.

How beautiful does Bjork look? This was taken at Alexander McQueen's memorial service during the week. I'm glad that she stayed true to herself and didn't wear a somber black dress, I'm sure Lee would have wanted her to express herself...

UPDATE: There is now a video...

Long Live McQueen.

Anna Wintour, Daphne Guinness, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Stella McCartney and Sarah Jessica Parker at Alexander McQueen's memorial service held in St. Paul's Cathedral, London. Bjork sang Glummy Sunday. It sounds like a beautiful goodbye.

E-40. and I aint talkin bout the face cream

If you did already know I'm not a huge hip-hop fan, I love Missy Elliott, but I wouldn't call her music hardcore Hip-Hop. Anyways I've been listening to E-40’s latest album, Revenue Retrievin’: Night Shift, mostly because the first track on the album, Spend The Night, samples Bjork's Oceanica. Her vocals sound amazing and really carry the track, check it out below.

Creative Gluttony

That last post reminded me of the first time I'd ever seen a McQueen show, it was the Fashion Rocks show back in 2003. I didn't see the video until I was in my Bjork phase (which I never escaped from) that would have been around four years ago, 06. How things can change in 4 short years? Anyways this 4 minute video really had a profound effect on me, well what it really gave me was an appetite. For more Bjork music, for more McQueen fashion shows, basically a hunger for creativity. A hunger I am still feeding, everytime I post something on this blog. So for giving me my creative gluttony, I thank you Alexander McQueen.

Kimiko's Genius

In the words of Victor Mancici:

Brilliant isn't the right word...

But it's the first that comes to mind.

I am so blown away with the work of Kimiko Yoshida. Her self portraits are some of the most beautiful photography I've seen in a long time. What maximizes the beauty is the incorporation of cultures from all over the globe. Feather headdresses, beading, jewelery, all transcending gender, race and ethnic origins, she has transformed herself in each picture.

We have this upcoming brief in college, to design a poster for Templebar's Culture Week, and I am definitly gonna reference Kimiko's work, it really is beyond inspiring. My current thought palette is heading in the direction of Bjork/AlexanderMcQueen/NickKnight's Homogenic album artwork.

So much inspiration, hopefully it will lead to an great final piece.

ALL is full of LOVE

One of my favorite music videos of all time is Chris Cunningham's masterpiece interpretation of Bjork's All Is Full Of Love. Below is a quick making of segment, and I think what made the video so genius is both artists admiration and respect for each other. In the making of video Bjork talks about not wanting to interfer with the post-production of the video, while Chris talks about how working with Bjork made him want to work harder and make the best video possible, which I think he really suceeded in doing.

She Is Coming!

Has everybody seen these virals that have been making the rounds the last few days online? Well people are saying its promotion for Christina Aguilera's new album Bionic, which im a bit sceptical about.
The evidence for this being a Christina viral are 1/she worked with LadyTron, Sia, Goldfrapp and Santigold on her new album and 2/ the amazing Floria Sigismondi directed her Fighter and Hurt videos, aswell as Marilyn Manson's Beautiful People video, which visually look very similar to the 2 videos.
On the opposite side it is Xtina at the end of the and does she really have something like this in her arsenal? im not sure.

Other people are saying Goldfrapp, Bjork, Lady Gaga(no way) or my guess The Knife. The Knife have a new opera coming out based on Darwin's Origin of the Species so that what im putting my money on.

Having said all that I would really like it to be a viral for Christina, cause if she was going in this direction id happily follow
