Marina, and the diamond ideas!
Last night Ciara and I were lucky enough to catch Marina Abramovic; The Artist is Present, at The Lighthouse, Dublin.
The documentary follows Marina as she prepares for a retrospective of her work at the World famous MoMA, New York. Along with 5 of her most famous performance pieces being recreated by young artist, she is also unveiling a new piece, The Artist is Present. Put simple, The Artist is Present states that along as the exhibition is running, the artist will be present, meaning that for 6 days a week, from opening to closing, Marina will be there, and it invites members of the public to sit across from her as long as they wish, with harrowing results.
I really cannot recommend the film enough. Marina is the star, obviously, it is her film after all, but she has a monumental gravitational pull, even through the screen, to the audience, her charisma and passion shines through.
As a short side note, can you believe Marina is sixty three? Yes, 63! Just goes to prove that art is not only good for the mind, but also for the body too!

YSL Darling...
I am absolutely dying to see L’Amour Fou, a new film about Yves Saint Laurent that is not your usual documentary. Rather than tell the story of the life of the fashion designer, it is told in large part through an interview with his long-time partner Pierre Berge (who, interestingly, first met Saint Laurent at the 1957 funeral of Christian Dior, for whom Saint Laurent worked as an assistant).

So what is Good Design to you?

So last week I took part in a documentary on "Good Design", unfortunatly the sound wasn't great so yesterday we had a fun day reshooting.
My mate David is shooting a documentary about Good Design, and the different opinions that designers with different levels of design education have about what makes a piece of design good.
The head of my college, AIT design deputy Mr. Eddie Ryan was interviewed, as well as recent graduate Katy Halpin and a few other designers. We were all asked to contributed to collaboration poster also. Eddie started it off, then I added to it, as did Katy and the other designers will too. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
Once the finished piece comes together I'll post it here, along with the documentary too, well if I can get my hands on it that is.
