Getting Higgy with It!
Last weekend I had the great honour to meet Professor Rolf-Dieter Heuer, CERN director general, at The Royal Irish Academy last Saturday. He was there as part of a panel discussion on the importance of finding the Higgs Boson, and my friend Katy and I were hired to record the event.
It was so great to see the massive turn out at the event, especially seeing as Ireland is the only European State currently not a member of CERN, which means that any Irish Citizens are not eligible to work there. And at a cost of 11 million euro to join, it is hardly a waste, when we think of the billions spent to bail out the Irish banks.
The entire set of interviews with the panel, in conversation with Dr. Claire O'Connell can be found on The Irish Times website.

Glasnevin
During the week I made my first visit to Glasnevin Graveyard, Dublin. Its an odd place, so beautiful and peaceful, and yet you are surrounded with mortality. They offer tours of the graveyard, where local celebrities and important political figures are pointed out, but we decided to just explode the place at our own pace.
We found this little fella just outside the gates of the graveyard, he almost made it.
The picture really don't do it justice, I highly recommend that if you are ever in the area, call in, explode, discover, and appreciate.

A Visit to the Dublin Contemporary

Last Saturday I was lucky enough to be invited to a talk by Irish Art Directer, Aoife Wasser (more on that later), held at the Dublin Contemporary. After the facinating talk, my mate, and fellow blogger, Joey (THE BUBBLE BOY) and I checked out the space.
I have to say I was more than impressed, and pleasantly surprised by the quality of work on display at the Dublin Contemporary. The building itself adds to the character of the space, and the varies mediums of work fill the building with a new lease of life.
It really does have everything. From photography, to instillation work, performance art, and some interactive art too, it really is a great collection, a solid and compressive body of Contemporary art.
The Dublin Contemporary runs until the end of this month, October 31st, so if you have not already been, I highly recommend a visit.

Absolut Beauties...
As part of ABSOLUT Fringe 2011, Dublin based agency The Small Print enrolled a host of image makers (including Ben Newman, Dalek, Linda Brownlee, Niels Shoe Meulman, Rilla Alexander (Rinzen) and The London Police) to each customise an eight-foot tall Absolut bottle. The bottles are being exhibited in Dublin's South Studios until Monday September 12, but in case you can't make it to the show...
...The Small Print has sent us images of all the completed giant bottle designs, as well as some work in progress shots of the project taking shape in a big warehouse over the course of a week. While the idea of customising drinks bottles with art is by no means a new concept, these hand-adorned giant bottles look really great.
From Creative Review's Blog, its nice to see Ireland, and Irish design getting a little attention...

Mary, Mary quite Extraordinary!

I was devastated to find out that one of my favourite up and coming designers, Mary katrantzou was in Dublin for IMMA's 20th anniversary, and I had missed her. Always one step behind it seems. Her work was being shown along side 20 other Irish artists and designers as part of an exhibition curated by Brown Thomas entitled The Art of Fashion, which runs until the end of October this year. From Monday Mary's amazing pieces will be transferred to the windows of Brown Thomas Dublin, where they will be on display for two weeks, for the whole city to enjoy...
